Until the time when we were\u2014finally\u2014both speakers at this <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wearetrivu\/status\/999965388736811008\">event<\/a> (link to ). And then I thought: \u2018Why on earth have I never met her before?\u2019If you Google her, Marga\u2019s <!--more--> profile will make your jaw drop. She is one of the most influential women in Spain according to Forbes, has been among the top100 leading women several times, is the alma mater of the celebrated Coca-Cola\u2019s Happiness Institute, a marketing rock star, Adecco\u2019s Marketing &amp; Communications Director, lecturer at IE &#8230; But Margarita never employs this information when introducing herself. She doesn\u2019t need to. She is an authentic woman.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve read Margarita\u2019s many interviews. Happiness is a constant topic in all of them and she is undoubtedly a perfect ambassador for this subject. However, today I do not want to talk to her about happiness, but rather about something that resonates more deeply with me: being authentic and its impact on individuals and communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. You\u2019ve challenged everything conventional, reinventing yourself after Adecco. How does a member of the board decide the wind is changing and it\u2019s time to start a new life? What\u2019s the roadmap?<\/strong><br \/>\nI believe in life cycles. I think we should never stop learning and challenging ourselves. And, sometimes, we must embrace change, because change is good. It\u2019s never easy and it wasn\u2019t easy for me, as Adecco was my home and I\u2019ve been extremely happy there. But it was very important to make this move, as I knew there are thousands of new things to learn and do. My roadmap is based on striving to keep on learning and doing all those things I\u2019ve never done before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Out of all your achievements, which has been the most meaningful to you and how did it impact your way of working or as a human being?<\/strong><br \/>\nI always told my team: \u2018If I get hit by a car tomorrow and the only idea that crosses your mind is \u201cshe was such a great professional\u201d, that would mean I\u2019d done something wrong\u2019. To me, the only way to assess achievements is by measuring the positive impact they\u2019ve had on the people around me. How I contributed to making them better, both as humans and professionally. A big achievement, to me, is when you meet someone you\u2019ve been working with and he or she tells you how positively you have changed his or her life in one way or another. That is amazing. And another big moment is when, at the Happiness Institute, we helped people to redirect their lives. Those are the meaningful, transcendental things. And, of course, a big achievement is the fact of having the chance to meet people from all over the world from whom I\u2019ve been learning so much. Many of them have become friends. Like what happened with you! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. What is your advice to your mentees?<\/strong><br \/>\nI prefer to listen to them and not give them too much advice. Above all, I encourage my mentees to experience, to try new things, to live. I tell them to open plenty of doors. Goals and milestones are great, but the best things happen along the way to those goals. Life wows you with magical moments that are not in your original plans. I never thought I could work with universities around the globe, cooperate with Bhutan or experience a Paris-Dakar. Those are gifts life has given me. But, like inspiration, such things find you when you are working. Always be open to trying new things, taking action, and keep on striving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. We are living in a very interesting time with multiple initiatives to empower women, but how do we really achieve it?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s not easy, as they are many concepts involved in this topic. First of all, people must be aware that we are all able to do many things and gender is not actually a relevant, significant factor per se. Women, culturally speaking, tend to think we are not good at this or that, but those are just the stories we tell ourselves. I drove in rallies, I rode in bike races, I am a triathlete&#8230; Nobody ever told me I couldn\u2019t do it or that my brothers would be better because they were more talented reading maps or because I had a worse spatial skill. Second, it is not relevant that women and men are different (and also equal). The relevant thing is that we are individuals and we can all make unique contributions precisely because of these differences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. What\u2019s the power of authenticity? Why is it so difficult to find?<\/strong><br \/>\n(Sighs) It\u2019s difficult to find and difficult to define, but I think it has lots to do with being humble. With being certain you can learn from each of the individuals you meet, putting yourself in second place. So, you do not need to pretend to be a different person. You come as you are and learn from others. Trying to impress is such a mistake. Our brain only takes a few seconds to build an unconscious impression of the people we meet. If we fake this image, the brain of the person we have met perceives that something is wrong and gets a confused image. I am what I am. I do not pretend anything different. If you do not like me, I would rather you do not like the real version of me, not a fake one. What is authentic to me is trying to learn as much as I can from the people I meet and making people feel happy and comfortable.
